The other night the weather changed drastically and we had a night of heavy wind. Here are some photos I took of the blustery sky in the evening. They make awesome desktop backgrounds, if you're in to that.

Cold Dark Running

I'm not a big fan of running in this cold weather. Esspecially because I run before the sun comes up. Here I am facing the elements today. I took this photo with a little Olympus I borrowed from work, just to see if I would be able to learn the Olympus menu system if I would go in that direction for my next camera. It seemed easy enough. The photos came out very blue, so I don't know what that was about.

Geographic Mapping

I installed a new mapping feature on my blog. It's over on the right hand side, down near the bottom. It's shows where people are located when they read the blog. Well, it actually shows where their IP address is registered. You can see Zel checked it out from the UK! Can anyone explain why I have that big bubble in the Midwest? Is it possible that all Comcast IPs are registered to a town out there, or something like that?

Jody!

Jody came home for Thanksgiving break. It's called "Thanksgiving" because we are giving thanks that Jody got a haircut! The LCHS team got beat tonight, also, so that's the end of football for us this year.

This was the sunrise today looking down Nolt Road. Although not in this view, Venus is still out in glorious view for you early risers.

Autumn Veggies!

Last week we had our annual church auction, and someone was selling vegetables from their garden next summer. We bid on it, (and bid on it, and bid on it), and got it! I think we'll be the happy recipients of home grown vegetables once or twice a month. The seller, Carol, let us know she has some nice fall veggies that she would be glad to deliver to us today at church. Wow! They are amazing! Look at them!!

Overcast day

I had a nice three town run today: Landisville, Salunga and Silver Springs. I was thinking about Lamarck, Avocados, culture, tribalism, warfare and world peace. It was very productive! Here was a nice farm scene I came across:

We went to the LCHS district playoff football game tonight. We won! Not sure what happens next!

November Jogging

The past few mornings I needed to suit up in warm sweats to go jogging. And it's dark for my whole run. I'll take warm and sunny over cold and dark any day! But there is a spectacular morning planet show going on right now that makes it worthwhile to bundle up and get out there! I'm sure I saw Mercury this morning, for the first time in my life, but it didn't show up in my photo (my sightings of Mercury typically turn out to be jet sightings!). Venus hangs up there like a diamond.

This photos is from underneath one of the pin oaks near Nolt's Ponds. If you click on this photo and make it big, look for my possible Mercury sighting just above the tree on the horizon.

Here is Venus up above the glow of the rising sun, and cars zooming along Stony Battery Road.

Even on my little farm roads, there are many cars and trucks playing "Go Speed Racer, Go" before the sun comes up. High schoolers are heading to Hempfield, commuters are shortcutting over to Rt 283, Concrete trucks are going to and from the quarry, oversize load trucks are hauling pre-built roof trusses out of the lumber yard on Nolt Road, and an occasional Milk truck lumbers through from farm to farm.

I noticed that NASA even is making special note of the morning planet show! Here is the link to that story. They are highlighting Monday morning, specifically.

Annisa took this photo tonight. Rhoda came over and made a wonderful Mexican dish. This photo captures what I guess is a typical evening, with phone calls and all kinds of mayhem going on during supper.

Rotary Brunch!

My Rotary club sponsors an All-You-Can-Eat Sunday brunch at Centerville Jr. High School every November. Call me if you want to buy some tickets! The food is standard cafeteria stuff - eggs, french toast, hash browns, ham, sausage, fruit, veggies and beverages. But it IS all you can eat. The home made chicken corn soup is very famous, and the desserts are homemade or brought in from a specialty pastry shop.

Jacobs Clan

We had a small Jacobs' Sunday over at Mom and Dad's today. We ate out back in the unusually warm October afternoon. It was low key and fun.

Magnetite Hunting

Bunny and I went magnetite hunting at Grubb Lake tonight. We only found flecks.

Background on Zel and Von

Von told us that he and Zel used a great guidebook on their mudscepade in england. Here is a video of Von reading from the book, in his Philadelphia apartment. It's too dark to see Von reading, but just listen to the words of the English guidebook! Listen to this while you watch Zel's album! Von said that stuff they were rinsing off their shoes was cow manure.

Running in the Dark

Now that it's dark when I run in the morning, I wear a headlamp. It has a red light that supposedly illuminates the road, but keeps your pupils from constricting. It works for me, except it gets overwhelmed by the lights of oncoming vehicles. Here I am this morning.

Laura at the North Museum

I was at the North Museum today for a training, and one of the other docents showed off her earrings that she got on a cruise to Alaska. They are made out of moose poop!

Jogging in the dark

It's dark now when I jog. Earlier this week I moved on to the grass when a car was coming by, as is my custom, and my foot went right in to a ground hog hole! Lukily the soil was loose and the grass was overgrown and soft, so I was surprised and I got muddy, but otherwise I was fine.

Sharon was learing how to use our camera (well.. my brother's old camera), and she took this photo with the self timer. She already knows more than me!

She's off on a working vacation on the west coast for the next few days.
