Have you noticed that if you buy something on the internet, your ads on Facebook change and match what you bought? Big brother is watching, and he knows a LOT about you.
This happens because these sites constantly trade information about your on line activities. You can watch it happen by installing the Chrome Extension called Collusion. After you load this extension, you'll get a new little extension icon to the right of the address bar, that looks like circles joined by lines, like a Miro painting.
Click on that, and it shows you what sites are trading your information as you browse. You'll see something like this:
It's a little bit freaky. The red circles are known tracking sites and the grey ones are probably tracking sites, but not cataloged yet. Browse to msnbc, fox news, or ESPN to see Collusion light up.
This tool is from Disconnect, and I'll have more on their good stuff later. They help you block that horsetrading of your information.
