Sasha on Stick
One of our rules is you gotta know how to check the oil, change a tire, and drive stick before you go for your license. Sasha is learning how to drive stick, and I must say that she's a natural!

Run to Ironville Community Park
Last night we had tremendous thunderstorms rumble through Lancaster, so the world was wet and refreshed with fixed nitrogen this morning. I went on a long run that I have bean yearning to do for about five years. When I started out, it was still stormy and raining, but by half way through, it stopped raining and was just warm and intensely humid. There were puddles, rushing water and overflowing gutters everywhere.
I went out Nolt to Prospect, and up to Ironville Community Park, then back down the other side on Ironville Pike to Marietta to Ivy Drive and Snapper Dam. Loved it. Loved it, loved it, loved it.
This is the communications tower at Ironville Community Park that is visible several miles away on Nolt Road. It's the destination at the summit!
This is the plaque in the park.
This is a view from the top, overlooking the storm drenched Lancaster County countryside. The sign at the entrance to the park on Ironville hill.
I just wish I had a better camera than my cell phone for these photos.
Here's a corn photo I took on my way back because I was thinking about my Isaac's corn chowder blog. 7/30/2007
I checked out the mileage on this run, and it's only about 8 1/2 miles. It felt much longer!

Isaac's web site
I may have bitten off more than I can chew, but we started a blog section on our Isaac's web site, and I'm the first author. It's called "Company news", and here are the first two posts:

Orthodontist!
Here are some photos from Annisa at the orthodontist this morning. She hates that I make 7:30am appointments, but they work great for my schedule!

Health Care Email List
I belong to a health care mailing list that sends an email once every couple of days. It always has good information about our health care system in this country. I recommend that you subscribe! Click here to go to the registration site.

Isaac's Pool Party Photos
Here are some photos of the Isaac's party we had yesterday. I think it was a world record for number of rug rats in our pool at one time!

Pool Party!
My Isaac's pool party is on for today. We won't let the threat of a thunderstorm scare us. See you sometime between noon-8pm, with food at 4pm.

Jogging this morning
Here is a photo I took while jogging this morning. It's a nice little trail along side Ivy Drive. Pine trees on the left and a cornfield on the right, with a nice soft path of clover to run on. | |||||||

The All Star Game
Yesterday, I was lucky enough to get to the Atlantic League All Star game with two other Rotarians, Bill and Ron, and another friend, Tom.
Ron, with his eagle eye, recognized another Rotarian, Jim, across the way.
We had a good time, including the thunderstorm at the end.
Of course we had the traditional Military displays and band. I am as patriotic as any other American, but I really don't understand the worship of military sacrifice. As far as I'm concerned, these folks are on a fool's errand, and they should be organizing a revolt instead of signing up for more duty.
These wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are purportedly to defeat terrorism. That's like trying to put out a fire with a leaf blower.
Bill (they are his seats, by the way) is an attorney who takes Social Security Disability cases. He was telling me that the returning veterans are discarded from the system, and then treated like so much garbage. If we really cared about these wounded citizens, we would give them the universal health care they deserve.

Sicko, the Movie
I watched Michael Moore's "Sicko" movie, and I highly recommend it for everyone. It does a good job of showing some of the problems with this country's health care system.
This was Micheal More on CNN, giving Wolf Bitzer the dickens! It's worth watching!

Chicago
Sharon, Annisa and I delivered Sasha and Alyssia to Ballet camp at Hope College. We stopped in Chicago for a couple of days, first. We met up with Von and Justin who were visiting Justin.
We used Dad's Garmin to find our way out there and back!

Jacobs Family Reunion, 6/17/2007
I didn't get to my Dad's family reunion this year in Laurelville, but for family records, here is the group photo. I'm sorry we missed it, because it's always a good time. I remember Jody, when he was a little kid, looked around and said "look at all the Grandpas!" My Dad and his brothers all share a resemblance!

Assateague 2007
Click here to see some photos from Assateague 2007. If you are in one of these photos, and you don't want to be, just send me an email, and I'll delete the photo.
This year we got Site #1, always our most coveted site.
We had one thunderstorm go past out in the ocean.
One night we had horrible wind, followed by rain.
The mosquitoes were bad if you got near a bush or a dumpster.
We discovered the Assateague Market is for sale for $1.4 Million.
We didn't do the Crab House, but we bought a half bushel and brought them to the island.
Dave had a $400 bike wheel destroyed when it came off on Rt. 1.
Kelly put apples in the green salad!
Jane's tent was destroyed by wind.
Susan swore "never again" to camp on the beach.
Horses walked through Norm and Carolyn's screen house, making their own doors.
We found a Tern nesting area down in the ORV section.
Dolly and Joe took me on a 14 mile run. (We did 10/30s - Run 10 minutes, walk 30 seconds). (Here is Dolly's running blog, BTW)
We had a good clamming expedition - so good that we were throwing back the big ones!
No one went to the hospital.
No one lost a wallet.
It was a fabulous year!
