Picking up Sharon

Sharon's office is in the big block building on the right where those four windows are.  That's the 3rd floor.

Sunday

Today, things just looked more vibrant than normal.

Yesterday I heard an interview with Donald and Lillian Stokes, the pair behind the Stokes bird guides.  The interviewer asked them what new thing they want to see.  One of them responded: "It's not about seeing new things, it's about seeing the same things with new eyes."

Firewood

I got two cords of Firewood.  It's a good load.  They gave me full measure, and it is really nice Oak, with some Black Walnut and maybe some Poplar (yellow wood with straight grains and smooth, thin bark?).  It lights well, but is also slow burning, and has high BTUs.

Last Flight of the Purple Van

We said "bon voyage" to our purple van today.  We didn't want to put another $3,000 in to the transmission.  The salvage guy unceremoniously raised the front end and cut out the Catalytic Converter out with his saws-all.  He gave me the price he quoted and took it away.  That was that.

The purple Van was a good car for us over the years.

I was a little sad to see it hauled away, be then I remembered that it broke down every 2 months, and frequently the electronics would turn off and the dashboard would go dead while we were driving down the highway.  Very disconcerting.

I've seen this Van on the back of a flat bed hauler more times than I like to remember.  This was the last time, but this time it was heading to that great metal smelter in the sky.  Or a Lititz salvage yard, according to the hauler guy.

Luis & Nayeli's Wedding

Luis was a beloved employee at Triquetra for the past year and a half.  Recently he moved on, and this weekend we were invited to his wedding.  It was a full fledged Mexican wedding.  Lots of fun, even though we needed to sneak out early because we are early risers.

Sasha's Car

Paul discovered this Honda Accord at Marty's.  1998 Accord, 188,000 miles, good service records at Marty's.  5 Speed, Cassette but no CD.  Some rust on dingers.  $3,000.  We think it's a good deal.  Sasha is excited to drive a Honda 5 speed!

We'll do the deal next week.

My favorite photo of the weekend, although kind of meaningless

Title of this abstact image: ESCAPE FROM DIM SUM

Von turns 27 in 2010

We gathered Mark, Elizabeth and Maya, and headed to NYC on Sunday to celebrate Von's 27th Birthday.  We went to a restaurant tucked under the Manhattan bridge and ate Dim Sum.  Jordans parents, Fran and Arnie, were fun to meet

The panorama photos leave gaps where they stitch together, but they captured the fun of the afternoon!

El Serano

The other evening some of us ate at El Serrano.  The weather was stormy and unsettled, which made for a cool photo.

My Brother's Knee

I stopped in to see David after his total knee replacement, but the poor guy was fast asleep.  In his slumber he muttered "I thought you were my friend.  Augh!"  and he writhed like someone kicked him in the leg.  Poor guy.  Nothing shameful about pain meds after a total joint replacement!

When I got back to my office, scoundrels had sent me this email.  It was just a little too coincidental.
